Hopefully for both the New Year and work on my bike.
I spent a couple of hours in the garage this afternoon. I would have been out there longer, but the light was starting to go and there's only so much you can do holding a torch in one hand and a wrench in the other.
I did get the blanking plugs screwed into the exhaust pipes. I had fitted one the other day but the one in the shorter (rear) pipe had cross threaded and stripped. I had a good look at it and decided that, as the plug was a much softer metal than the chrome pipe, a bit of brute force would probably do. Fingers crossed and I was right. (for once!)
I also managed to remove the fuel injection module without too much bother. Now I'll spend a bit of time pouring over the wiring diagram to see what components and more importantly, their associated wiring, can be removed. the instructions I found on-line suggested pushing the wiring out of the way under the tank but, as I'm replacing the tank altogether, I'd rather keep everything as clean as possible and remove the wiring from the loom. I'm hoping that the complete Engine Management Unit can go but I'm just not too sure if it does anything else apart from the fuel injection and speedo which are both going.
I'll get out again at the weekend and maybe by that time I'll have it clear in my head. I don't want to think about fitting the carb or wiring in the new electronic ignition unit before I get all the old stuff well out the way.
